History of the Muttur District/Magistrate's Court

The Muttur District/Magistrate's Court is one of the oldest judicial institutions in the Eastern Province, with a proud and longstanding history of serving the administration of justice. The foundation stone for the original court building was laid in 1893, marking the beginning of an enduring judicial presence in Muttur.

The history of the court can be traced to the 1940s, when justice was initially administered through a Rural Court. It later functioned as a Circuit Court, and in 1960 a permanent Magistrate's Court was established to cater to the growing judicial needs of the region.
